CANBERRA police tried desperately to move on a kangaroo from Lake Burley Griffin yesterday.
A video of the incident, first posted online late Wednesday, shows the distressed kangaroo failing to co-operate with the two officers, and hopping back into the drink within seconds of being delivered to dry land.
An ACT Policing spokesman confirmed the rescue, just over a kilometre from Parliament House was eventually successful.
“Officers rescued the kangaroo from the lake, and handed it to parks workers who relocated the kangaroo to a bushland location,” the spokesman said.
The Bush Capital frequently sees kangaroos wander into suburban streets and parks.
Only last week, another kangaroo was spotted hopping down Mort St in Civic.
Each year, the ACT government controversially culls thousands of kangaroos around Canberra, their numbers so great they damage the local environment.
