A former star athlete turned drug cheat is behind bars after being refused bail accused of yet another spate of domestic violence offending.

Aaron Sloan, 27, once a promising professional baseball player, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with breaching a family violence order.

Magistrate Louise Taylor refused him bail, saying he lacks self control and his shown repeated disregard for court orders intended to protect his former partner.

Sloan was the Australian Baseball League’s finals MVP in 2013 and helped the Canberra Cavalry to its Asia Series win the same year, but was banned from all sport for four years in 2017 after returning a positive test for methamphetamine.

In court documents, police say an officer was with Sloan’s former partner when he rang her and said: “You want psycho, you’ll get psycho.

“I’ve already called the boys, they’ll drop a gun to me.

“I’ll come back and make sure our son doesn’t have a mother or a father.

“I’m pure evil.”

Sloan has also previously sent the woman a picture of him holding a gun, according to police.

It is alleged Sloan made 113 phone calls to the woman in one day earlier this year, none of which she responded to.

Police also allege Sloan sent the woman 48 emails in ten days, many of which suggested he was monitoring her movements.

One of the emails said: “Only just getting home hey”, while another said: “Still home. That’s good”.

In a summary of a police interview, Sloan allegedly said he would talk to his former partner every day if he could.

His latest alleged breaches of a family violence order involve him calling his former partner repeatedly, yelling at her down the phone, and professing his undying love for her.

Sloan was arrested on Tuesday.

Court documents show he has prior convictions for harassment, firearms offences and making threats to kill.

He has pleaded not guilty to the unresolved allegations of stalking and breaching family violence orders.

In court on Thursday, defence lawyer Tim Sharman said Sloan had breached his bail and family violence orders more than what was alleged by police, but said the comments were made in the “context” of a relationship which was “unhealthy for both of them”.

Ms Taylor said Sloan needed to learn to not contact his former partner otherwise he would end up in jail.

He returns to court at a later date.
