Australia's Shame: Horrifying trend in violence against women

Two thugs have learned their punishment for crashing a party in the Southern Highlands before bashing two young men in an unprovoked attack.

One offender was armed with a piece of wood during the bloody ordeal which unfolded on a suburban street in Braemar on the night of Saturday, March 14 last year.

Scott Darren Kenworthy, 20, from Moss Vale, was sentenced in the NSW District Court on Friday for his part in the attack and received home detention and a 20-month jail sentence to be served in the community, by way of an intensive correction order.

Co-offender Bryce Dean Moloney, 21, from Nowra, who was armed with the wooden plank, received a jail term of at least 12 months during his sentence last month.

The agreed facts stated the pair along with a group of other friends arrived at a small party on Isedale St about 9pm on the night of the attack.

Kenworthy and Moloney hopped out of their vehicles and entered the house wearing masks and hoodies.

The agreed facts stated Kenworthy punched a 22-year-old man in the face, whom he met in the hallway, before turning on a 21-year-old man.

Kenworthy and Moloney launched a tirade of sickening punches on the 21-year-old despite the victim bleeding from his head.

The two offenders have been sentenced in the Downing Centre District Court.

The two thugs bolted from the house and hopped back in their waiting vehicles before going to McDonalds.

While driving off, Kenworthy said “that was red hot”.

One victim suffered a large cut to his forehead during the ordeal which required stitches, a fractured nose, and cuts and swelling to his face while the other victim suffered facial injuries and bleeding on his left eye.

The two offenders were arrested in the days following the home invasion.

The agreed facts stated the pair made unsupported claims they were helping young teenage girls by crashing the party.

During his sentencing, the court heard Kenworthy had recently been convicted over a separate violent assault which predated the home invasion.

Judge Mark Williams warned Kenworthy he would be going to jail if he ever came before a court again for a violent offence.

“You are a very lucky man,” he said.

“You have committed two very serious crimes for a young man.

“If you come before a court again you will be in custody for a very long time.”

Meanwhile, Moloney was eligible for release from prison on May 24 taking into account time already served behind bars on remand.

The two violent offenders both pleaded guilty to aggravated enter dwelling, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and reckless wounding.
