A teenager charged a woman $350 to ‘stay safe’ after she found out the woman allegedly slept with the teen’s boyfriend after a Year 12 formal.
Rihannon Sienkiewicz, 19, faced Moss Vale Local Court this week after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and demand with menaces intend to obtain gain, after she extorted and bashed a love rival.
According to court documents, when the Colo Vale resident found out her boyfriend had cheated after his school formal on November 19, 2020, she messaged the teen he’d slept with and demanded $350 in payment for not extracting physical revenge.
The court heard the victim had to borrow money in order to be able to pay Sienkiewicz the price for safety, which she dropped with a third party. Texts show that Sienkiewicz then agreed not to follow through with her threats, according to the court documents.
However, after a period of time, Sienkiewicz became “worked up” by the situation.
A month after the formal on December 19, the victim was having drinks with friends at a Bowral bar when she was approached by Sienkiewicz, who asked to have a chat in the bathroom.
According to court documents, she told the victim “I’m still not happy about what happened” before becoming violent.
She punched the victim in the face five times, causing the woman to fall and hit her head on the tiled floor. The victim told police she felt further punches and her hair being pulled while she was on the floor.
The victim was found dazed and bleeding by a friend, who said Sienkiewicz reappeared to say “she deserved what she got”.
The victim was later taken to Bowral and District Hospital with a bloody and bruised face and a suspected concussion.
The court heard Sienkiewicz had written a letter of apology to the victim, which was taken into account in the judgment.
Magistrate Mark Douglass sentenced her to a 12-month community corrections order and 100 hours of community service. He also ordered her to pay $350 compensation to the victim, whom she is to avoid contacting.
In addition, Magistrate Douglass directed Sienkiewicz to participate in mental health assessment and treatment as needed.
