The trial for a man accused of throwing a deadly punch on Queensland’s Gold Coast will be delayed until NSW courts finalise his fresh charges of violence.

Ricky Lefoe, 29, was due to appear in Picton Local Court on Thursday after pleading not guilty to assault and intimidation. However, COVID restrictions in the Greater Sydney region prevented the Spring Farm resident’s matter from being heard and the matter was adjourned.

Court documents show Mr Lefoe, who works as a national supervisor for M&E Bobcat Worx, has been charged with assault and intimidation after an alleged incident in a supermarket at 6.30pm on July 5 of last year.

Police will allege Mr Lefoe was captured on CCTV spitting on one of the victims and intimidating the other with the intention of causing them harm.

He will appear in Picton Local Court for a hearing on January 27 next year.

At the time of the alleged offences, the court documents show Mr Lefoe was on bail for charges of unlawfully striking causing death.

Police allege Mr Lefoe punched Brazillian national Ivan Susin in the head in a fight over a stolen chip in Surfers Paradise on October 1, 2019. Mr Susin suffered a concussion and bleeding on the brain and was in a coma for 12 days before he passed away.

Mr Lefoe is due to appear in Brisbane Supreme Court on October 15 on the charge of unlawful striking causing death. The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

He remains in custody after breaching his strict bail conditions.

The court documents reveal Mr Lefoe was present when his older brother was murdered in 2011.

The documents state Jamie Lefoe was fatally stabbed in the lower back in January 2011 by four men who are now serving prison sentences for his murder. A statement from Mr Lefoe’s brother-in-law said Ricky was badly affected by the murder.
