Our recent online poll asking readers about the best brunch in the Southern Highlands has yielded a clear winner – The Glass Cafe in Mittagong. A local favourite operating in Mittagong for over five years, The Glass Cafe has a special place in the hearts of Mittagong residents.
Glass Cafe owner Leanne Ferreira said the cafe reciprocates that local love, and it shows as you walk through the doors.
The walls are hung with local art and there is a shop of handmade produce like jams and alcohol. The Cafe focuses on recognising locals and their creativity, so it’s no surprise that residents show them so much loyalty.
Of all the numerous cafes and restaurants in the Southern Highlands, The Glass Cafe has been voted as the best place to brunch in the region. When asked what makes the brunch stand out from the crowd, Ms Ferreira said the availability of breakfast was the key.
“The options are open,” she said.
“People love to be able to have breakfast and lunch at the same time.”
All of the food at The Glass Cafe is made using locally sourced produce, some of which is grown in the garden on site and some of which is brought in by employees. Even customers have been known to bring in ingredients from their gardens.
“We’ve always had local produce,” Ms Ferreira said.
“I started with local only produce.”
If you need help selecting from the tempting menu of The Glass Cafe, Ms Ferreira said her favourite dishes are the Lambs Fry and the Mushroom Bruschetta. Breakfast is available until 2pm and lunch starts at 10.30am, so it’s a brunch menu taking the best of both worlds.
Although she’s looking to expanding the dinner menu and focus on offering seafood, Ms Ferreira said she’ll keep the Cafe true to its roots.
“I never want to change the cafe during the day,” she said.
“Our breakfast and lunch are what we do and that’s what we’re known for.”
That rings true after the Cafe has won the top spot in our poll to find the best brunch in the Southern Highlands. The motto of The Glass Cafe is “Not just a cafe”, and clearly the focus on local art as well as locally-sourced food is a winning combination.
