A local woman told police she couldn’t remember where she’d been drinking bourbon before she wrecked her car in a ditch.

Remona Iris Rhodes, 36, pleaded guilty to mid-range drink-driving, negligent driving and driving with drugs in her system in Moss Vale court in December last year.

In the early afternoon of January 1, 2020, the agreed facts show the Colo Vale resident was driving a silver Nissan sedan along the busy Bessemer St in Mittagong when she was stopped by police for a roadside test.

The facts state she returned a positive reading for meth, which was confirmed by a secondary test at the police station later that day.

Months later on the early morning of November 27, the court documents show Rhodes was busted by police in the same car on Wilson Drive in Colo Vale. According to the facts, police came across the car parked on the side of the road with Rhodes in the drivers seat and the hazard lights flashing.

The police facts state the car was severely damaged, with deep scrapes and gouges on every panel of the left side of the car. According to the facts, the rear tyre on the passenger side was utterly flat while the front wheel has been torn from the wheel rim completely.

“I hit a ditch, then ran into a wall and crashed,” she told police.

Police conducted a breath test and the facts show Rhodes returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.099 – nearly twice the legal limit.

Rhodes told police she’d had four shots of vodka and some bourbon before driving, but she couldn’t remember where she’d consumed the bourbon. According to the facts, she guessed her last drink was around 45 minutes before she was found by police.

Rhodes was due to be sentenced in Moss Vale court on January 25, but she asked for the matter to be adjourned to Wollongong.

The court heard the charge of negligent driving was withdrawn by the police and guilty pleas were upheld in the remaining two charges.

Rhodes will appear in Wollongong Local Court on February 22 for sentencing.
