A man flew into a rage when two women refused to have sex with him one night, threatening to kill them and himself.

Violence against women: Australia is facing an epidemic worse than terrorism

A Southern Highlands man lost his temper when two women refused to engage in a threesome with him, telling them he would kill them both and himself.

Jack Antony Bower, 29, appeared via video link in Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to common assault, intimidation, and two counts of drug possession.

The court heard Bower, who is from Bundanoon, was at a house in Marulan with two women late on the night of September 5 when he asked them for a threesome.

When one of the women refused, the court heard he yelled in frustration and threatened to kill both women.

“I’ll slit ya f***ing throats,” he said.

Despite sleeping on it, court documents reveal Bower woke up still furious the next morning and told one of the women to leave the house.

Court documents reveal she was scared to get into the car due to Bower’s repeated threats of violence.

“Get the f*** in the car, I’m going to kill all three of us,” he said.

He then repeated his threats to the women if they didn’t get in the car, the court heard. One of them saw Bower get into a physical fight with the other woman, according to court documents.

Bower then screamed at both women to leave while they stood in the doorway, and then pushed them out of the door and slammed it, according to court documents. One of the women captured his actions on her phone’s camera, which showed his “aggressive and erratic behaviour” according to court documents.

Months later on November 12, police visited Bower’s house for a failure to appear charge and saw him with a clear resealable bag of ‘ice’, glass amphetamine smoking pipe, and a bong.

He was charged with possession of 0.3 grams of methamphetamine and 3.9 grams of cannabis, which they found in the room.

Bower’s lawyer Tracey Annan told the court her client had a long history of drug use and mental illness. She said Bower had an abusive upbringing and has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The court heard he had been seeking help for his mental state and for his dependence on illicit drugs.

“This is his first time in custody and it has taught him a lot about where he’s at and where he could be,” she said.

“Given his mental illness, remaining in custody is not going to assist him,” she said.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie agreed Bower’s mental health would be better served in the community and noted his glowing character references.

“He’s described as courteous and respectful,” she said.

The court heard Bower has a criminal history marred by convictions for assaults and stalking, but Magistrate Beattie accepted he had spent his three months in custody participating in domestic violence courses.

The magistrate sentenced Bower to two intensive corrections orders of five months and one week and eight months and one week. She ordered Bower to abstain from drugs, undergo assessment and treatment, and get a mental health plan. Bower was convicted and fined $750 for the drug possession charges.
