Police are investigating a fatal car crash in the Southern Highlands where an 18-year-old passenger tragically “couldn’t be saved.”

Police are investigating a fatal car crash in the Southern Highlands over the long weekend where an 18-year-old passenger tragically lost his life.

Shortly after midday on Saturday, NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the Hume Highway near Sutton Forest after reports of a single-vehicle car crash involving three people.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and were told a car veered onto the median strip before hitting a tree.

Police are investigating a fatal car crash involving three men on the Hume Highway at Sutton Forest.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police confirmed that the car held a Victorian registration plate.

Six paramedic road crews attended, as well as the aeromedical team attached to the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter at Bankstown.

The male driver and male passenger – both 19 years old – were treated for serious injuries at the scene.

One was reportedly found to be trapped in the car and the other had to be treated for major trauma to the body.

Both teenagers were stabilised and transported to Liverpool Hospital.

However the 18-year-old male passenger sadly died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Liam Ryan called the accident a “tragedy.”

“Police did a great job administering CPR until we arrived. Sadly the patient couldn’t be saved,” Inspector Ryan said.

“Paramedics treated both remaining patients, as rescue crews worked to free one of them who was trapped in the vehicle.”

He urged drivers to take care on the road.

A crime scene for the incident was established and the cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Crash Investigation Unit.
