Harrison Hogan to front court for driving offences, alleged brawls in Bowral

A young tradie has admitted to taking part in a wild brawl on Bowral’s main street after he spilled a teen’s drink at a pub.

Police call drink drivers "selfish pricks"

A young tradie had a third of his total 15 charges withdrawn after he admitted to the remaining offences related to a Bong Bong St brawl and illegal driving.

Harrison Paul Hogan, 20, appeared in Moss Vale Court on Wednesday to plead guilty to 10 charges including affray, using violence to cause fear, and four counts of driving while disqualified.

Police said Hogan got into a fight with four teens in the early hours of August 8 at a pub in Bowral after one of the teens asked him to pay for a drink he had spilled, which he refused to do.

Court documents reveal Hogan walked out of the pub on to Bong Bong St about 2am and began a brawl with the teens, who he left bruised and bleeding as he ran off.

Court documents show the affray occurred only weeks after Hogan was involved in a brawl outside Mittagong RSL Club on July 18, when one man was left with head injuries and another with a suspected broken ankle.

On Wednesday, the court heard the related charge of affray was downgraded to using violence to cause fear. Hogan pleaded guilty to the amended charge.

Despite the prosecution’s concerns Hogan would commit further offences, he was granted bail on September 2 and told to be on good behaviour. He was arrested for driving while disqualified the next day.

He was taken into custody on remand a few weeks later for allegedly going on an illegal joyride through Willow Vale about 6.30pm on September 20 while riding an unregistered and uninsured black and white motorcycle and not wearing a fitted helmet.

Court documents reveal his licence has been suspended since June 2019 after he was convicted of driving with drugs in his system.

Police documents say the carpenter has a “clear disregard for the disqualified status” after being charged with three driving while disqualified offences in just one month.

The court heard Hogan’s 15 charges have all been finalised, with five charges of assault withdrawn, and pleas of guilty to the remaining 10 charges.

The court heard there were three detention applications for Hogan after he was 45 minutes late to report to police. However, Magistrate Mark Douglass determined the young carpenter should remain on bail until his next court date.

The court heard Hogan’s employer had been aware of the charges before the court, but the resulting backlash from media reports had caused complaints from customers and he was let go.

Magistrate Douglass told Hogan he didn’t want to see him in court again until the sentencing date.

“There is a lot of offending here. You’re on thin ice,” he said.

“I don’t say that to intimidate you...but it is your circumstance.”

Hogan will be sentenced for the 10 offences on February 1 in Moss Vale Court.
