The girlfriend of a “beloved” man who died after falling while attempting to abseil down a cliff in the Southern Highlands is desperately trying to raise funds to take his remains home.

Emergency services were called to Belmore Falls at Barrengarry, just before 4pm on Monday, following reports a person had been injured.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District arrived to find a man, aged in his 20s, who had fallen while attempting to abseil down a cliff.

The man was declared deceased, and the body was extracted with the assistance of Police Rescue, SES and NSW Ambulance.

The man has since been identified as Jeisson Leon after his girlfriend Natalia Castañeda started a GoFundMe for his repatriation and funeral service.

“[He] unfortunately died while practising a high altitude sport,’ she wrote. “We have already contacted the insurance and it does not cover these services.

“The family and I made the decision to cremate the body, therefore the funeral process will be carried out here in Australia and continue with the repatriation of the ashes in Colombia and thus expedite the process of having our beloved Jeisson reunited with his entire family, friends and people who love him.

“In addition to paying for tickets and expenses, I thank you in advance for the support and good will of each of you.”
