A western Sydney publican has unveiled his bold plan to resurrect an iconic Blacktown pub more than three decades after it was unceremoniously demolished.

Developer Simon Paterson submitted plans to the Blacktown City Council earlier this month to rebuild the Robin Hood pub on Flushcombe Rd, nearby to the Westpoint shopping centre.

The pub was levelled in the mid-80s, according to Mr Paterson, after the watering hole’s staff were given the weekend off only hours before bulldozers were moved in to raise the pub.

Mr Paterson, who also operates the nearby Town Tavern, said the city’s northwest lacked good food and beverage venues despite a growing population tipped to welcome tens of thousands of new residents in coming years.

“People are screaming out for a good pub,” Mr Paterson said.

“There’s nothing close to the Blacktown CBD that does a good food offering.

“I decided to bring the old Robin Hood back, but as a good family restaurant.”

Costing more than $5 million, the new pub will have space for almost 600 patrons.

It will operate seven days a week, and will also feature a gaming room and outdoor terrace.

The application comes more than a year after Mr Paterson was given approval by Blacktown City Council for a 15-storey mixed-use apartment project on the same site.

The residential development, which also includes a pub, was put on hold while Mr Paterson awaits the realisation of other large-scale, multistorey projects, including the Blacktown Brain and Spine Institute.

“It will be a good five to 10 years before we can realise a high-rise project in Blacktown,” Mr Paterson said.

“There’s nothing else there. I’d be the first one to go to market on a project like that.”

When, or if, that project gets off the ground, Mr Paterson said he would evaluate the future of the Robin Hood.

The pub could remain on the site, or could be integrated into the new development.

For now, Mr Paterson said he was committed to delivering a “five-star” dining experience.
