Two piglets found roaming Rooty Hill could not find their way home

HAVE you lost two piglets recently? Blacktown’s Animal Holding Facility is hoping the owner of the pair will come forward before they are sold to an auction.

IT SEEMS two little piggies did not make it all the way home after they were found roaming the streets of Rooty Hill this month.

Both pigs were found in Church St within 10 days of each other — one on May 11 and the second on May 21.

The pigs are believed to be of the landrace breed and aged three or four months.

A spokesman for Blacktown’s Animal Holding Facility — where the pigs are being held — said if the owner did not come forward and no one adopted them they would be sold at a livestock auction.

“These are the first pigs we’ve had at the facility in about three years,” the spokesman said.

“Maybe one person owned them and they’ve just got away from them. They are very healthy.”

A Blacktown Council spokeswoman said pet pigs did not require microchipping so the number of pigs kept as pets in Blacktown was not known.

“Pigs do not fall under the companion animal category as dogs and cats do, so do not require microchipping or lifetime registration,” the spokeswoman said.

“Under Australian law, however, all owned pigs require an ear tag with an identification number or an identification tattoo (number). Owners must keep pigs on registered properties and a government ‘pig pass’ form is required when selling or buying a pig.”

Anyone who may have lost a pig recently can contact the Blacktown Animal Holding Facility on 9839 6161.
