A western Sydney man who allegedly attempted to groom a teenage girl online for sex and sent her sexually-explicit material has been hit with a fresh charge.
Steven Phillip Lovell, 38, now faces two charges after he was arrested by Strike Force Trawler in December.
Police allege they had engaged in communications with Mr Lovell online using the identity of a 14-year-old girl when he allegedly wrote about sexually-explicit acts he wished to perform on the child and sent sexually-explicit material.
Mr Lovell was initially charged with using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 years for sexual activity.
He now faces an additional Commonwealth charge of using a carriage service to send indecent material to a person under 16.
According to court documents, police allege Mr Lovell attempted to groom the fictitious teen between September 19 and October 8, 2019, with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with her.
Police allege he was aware of the child’s age during the conversations.
It is further alleged that Mr Lovell sent indecent material to the teen during the same period.
On October 9 last year, police raided his home and seized computers, electronic storage devices and a mobile phone.
He was arrested and charged at Riverstone Police Station.
Mr Lovell is yet to enter pleas to the charges.
The matter was briefly mentioned at Penrith District Court today where it was adjourned for Mr Lovell to be arraigned on October 9.
