The GWS Giants are gearing up to play their first home game — against Fremantle at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.
Western Sydney supporters are eager to watch their local team battle it out on its own turf and hopefully win its first game.
“I can think of no better lead-up to this important occasion than by cheering on NSW’s first and only AFL team at their inaugural home game,” Blacktown Mayor, Councillor Stephen Bali said.
“We are so proud the GWS Giants Women’s team have chosen Blacktown as their home and will play every home game here at the Sportspark.”
The home game comes after the Giants were outgunned during Round 2 against Carlton in Melbourne over the weekend with a 13-point loss — 34 to 47.
“For three quarters of the game we were pretty much on top, but unfortunately it is a 60-minute game and that’s when Carlton really hurt us,” Giants coach Tim Schmidt said.
“It was only for like five minutes in each quarter where Carlton really hurt us and kicked a couple of quick goals and made us pay.”
Captain Amanda Farrugia said she was excited to show Western Sydney supporters what the team was capable of and asked locals to watch its home games.
