Blacktown City have made a statement of intent ahead of the NSW NPL 1 season with the signing of former A-League midfielder Devante Clut.
Clut, 22, joined the Demons after parting ways with Newcastle Jets last week, after failing to crack into a side flying high in second spot on the A-League ladder.
Blacktown coach Mark Crittenden said Clut was “a great addition” to the squad
“We will sit down in the coming days and work on setting some goals for him this season,” he said.
Blacktown were NSW NPL champions in 2016 and finished second in the regular season behind APIA Leichhardt in 2017.
But City were shocked in last year’s finals, going out after losing back-to-back home games to Rockdale City and eventual champions Manly United respectively.
Sydney-born Clut played for Parramatta FC before joining Brisbane Roar in 2014.
There he caught the eye with a series of long range goals including a brace against Korea’s Suwon Bluewings in the AFC Champions League.
He moved to Newcastle in 2016, where he scored one A-League goal during one-and-half seasons.
Clut took to Twitter on Monday thanking the club for the chance to showcase his talent as he pushes for a return to the A-League.
“Hard work continues, ready to put it all on the line over the next 7 months and show I have what it takes to get back in the league,” he wrote.
“Thank you Blacktown City FC for this opportunity.”
Clut will wear the number 7 jersey for Blacktown.
