Tactical police arrests at Minchinbury Bunnings

HEAVILY armed police have swooped at a Bunnings Warehouse store in western Sydney this afternoon for drug arrests, in a scene which shocked innocent shoppers.

HEAVILY armed police arrested three people for drug related offences in a raid at a Bunnings Warehouse store in Minchinbury on Wednesday.

Officers from Surry Hills Regional Enforcement Squad with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit swooped on the store’s carpark about 12.45pm, arresting two men, aged 48 and 60, and a woman, 50.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said officers seized an amount of heroin and methylamphetamine in the operation.

The 60-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment, before being taken into custody at Riverstone police station.

The second man and a woman were taken to Riverstone police station.

Pictures taken by a witness showed a man, whose face was hidden by a parked car with its boot open, lying handcuffed on the ground while police stood guard.

Several shoppers watched on as the events unfolded in the carpark.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said a special operations team was called to the scene on the Great Western Highway and John Hines Ave, to assist with a police operation.

No staff members were injured or involved in the operation, according to a Bunnings Warehouse spokeswoman.

The woman has been charged with 10 offences, including four counts of supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), and two counts of supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).

She was due to appear before Mt Druitt Court on Thursday.

The 48-year-old man was released pending further inquiries.

Strike Force Lubuma police also raided three homes on Wednesday; one at Carlise Ave, Mt Druitt, one at Nicholi St, Kellyville Ridge and one at Doonside.

Strike Force Lubuma was established by Surry Hills Region Enforcement Squad in July to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in Sydney.

Police inquiries are continuing.
