A Western Sydney man who allegedly called his mother begging her to pay a fake ransom while he kicked back with friends at a cafe remains on remand as the prosecution works to confirm charges over the bizarre incident.
Raynor Earnshaw, 31, of Toongabbie has been charged with giving false information about a person in danger, making a false representation resulting in a police investigation, using a carriage service to menace and intimidation with intent to cause fear.
There’s also an application for an AVO protecting his mother Laurene, from whom he was allegedly demanding a $10,000 “ransom”, before the court.
The matter was due for charge certification before Central Local Court on Thursday, March 11 but the Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor had other news for Magistrate Roberts Williams.
“The charge certificate is not ready,” she told the court.
“The matter is unusual. We are seeking suitable charges.”
Sutherland Local Court has previously heard police allege Earnshaw was captured on CCTV on his phone at a Brighton Le Sands cafe during the alleged incident last November.
The court was provided a copy of text messages allegedly sent by Earnshaw.
“Mum, I need help,” he allegedly texted.
“Do you think I want this? I need this or I’m done.
“Thanks, mum, this is a start. It’s going to be a finger every f***ing 15 minutes.”
Earnshaw’s legal aid solicitor Ms Leyton did not apply for bail on her client’s behalf.
The matter will next appear in court on April 1.
