Western Sydney’s Raging Waters theme park will host a unique COVID safe drive-in concert series this winter, featuring pop music duo The Veronicas and kids’ favourite The Wiggles.
The Drive-In Entertainment concerts will be the first to take place in Australia since the deadly coronavirus brought live entertainment to a halt and will be held at the Prospect water park throughout July.
The concerts will kick off on July 17 with headliners The Veronicas and The Wiggles and the country’s first drive-in nightclub, hosted by DJ Dan Murphy.
Up to five shows will be held each night, accommodating up to 1000 cars at Sydney’s only COVID safe live venue.
Concertgoers will be able to enjoy the live shows from the safety of their car, with audio broadcast via an FM radio signal to the car’s speakers, which will sync with the sound stage.
The series will also feature comedy acts from Arj Barker, Jimeon, Akmal Saleh and Lawrence Mooney. Kids can also enjoy a range of live shows from Nickelodeon, starring SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Paw Patrol.
Aussie music mainstays Casey Donovan, Kate Ceberano and husband-and-wife duo Jess and Matt will round out the bill.
The shows will also be live streamed via Zoom and will allow the audience to see themselves and friends on the big screen and to interact with the artists live on stage.
Drive-In Entertainment Australia’s Samwise Holmes expected more acts and venues to be announced in the coming months.
“These acts are only the start, we have more artists and venues being added over the upcoming months,” Mr Holmes said
“For example, we are currently in talks with some of Australia’s hottest indie bands that sell out concerts in places like The Enmore in Sydney – so this audience type will be catered for as well.”
The series announcement follows a successful test-drive launch with Casey Donovan last month.
Ticketing will be non-contact and food and drink will be available for order with contactless delivery to the car.
The Veronicas’ Jess Origliasso promised a “outside of the box” experience at their first-ever drive-in concert.
“This is the first time we’re ever done anything like this. Who knows what will happen,” she said.
“We’re expecting a symphony of car horns during ‘Untouched’.”
