Prospect business owner donates $33,000 for farmers for Triple M lunch

SPENDING $33,000 on lunch might be a bit steep for some — but self-confessed footy fanatic and Prospect businessman John Khouri said this particular meal was worth every cent.

SPENDING $33,000 on lunch might be steep for some — but John Khouri said this particular meal was worth every cent.

Mr Khouri, from Merrylands, made the winning bid for a table of 10 at Triple M’s No BS Grand Final Lunch today, with that money going to support drought-stricken farmers through Rural Aid’s Buy-A-Bale campaign.

The diehard rugby league fan, who “unfortunately” follows the Parramatta Eels, said he had always wanted to attend the event and couldn’t pass up supporting the cause.

“People always say this country was built on mining. It wasn’t, it was built on farmers,” he said.

“It’s not about the tickets for me. I feel blessed and privileged to be able to help the farmers.”

Mr Khouri runs two businesses in Prospect, a custom flooring company and an auto parts wholesaler.

He held off rising bids last Thursday to secure his spot at the table at the Triple M Grill Team’s annual pre-grand final celebration.

A flurry in the final two minutes of bidding saw the price soar from $25,000 to $33,000, with Mr Khouri unwilling to let the opportunity slip.

“I live in the Sydney metro area and my grass is brown,” he said.

“The farmers’ livelihood depends on vegetation.

“I just hope I can show people that everyone can make a difference. A million drops creates a puddle, and a million puddles creates a pool.”
