THIS image of Blacktown Hospital shows the massive scale of the $700âmillion redevelopment — one that has led Premier Gladys Berejiklian to declare it the best in the world.
“We are delivering first-class health care and thousands of new jobs for western Sydney,” she said during a visit to inspect stage two of the project on Friday.
The praise follows the hospital’s clinical services building (as part of stage one) being voted best in the world at the International Academy for Design and Health Academy Awards in Vienna last month.
Stage two comprises an emergency department, maternity unit, paediatric ward, intensive care and operating theatres.
“This is a major expansion of existing services and delivery of new services to meet increasing demand and reduce the need to travel out of the area for treatment,” Ms Berijiklian said.
“Blacktown Hospital’s new clinical services building reflects the needs of patients and staff because it was designed with them front of mind.’’
Stage two is due to open in 2019 and a second carpark is slated for completion this year.
Stage one, including cancer services, was completed in April 2016.
