Former Panthers hooker and Dally M Hooker of the Year James Segeyaro has taken his rugby league talents to western Sydney, signing on with second-tier club Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles for 2022.
The 31-year-old took to social media to announce his one-year deal with the Manly Sea Eagles feeder club.
“You know the saying ‘it’s not the destination it’s the journey’, well that has resonated with me on so many levels I cannot begin to explain,” he said.
“I become a content creator, wrote some blogs, live where I want to live, worked my f****** a** off and never gave up on my dream to play in the NRL again. I know it’s not a nrl contract, but for me it represents HOPE. I know it’s only a matter of time ‘til that dream comes true again – I just need an opportunity,” he continued.
“Can’t no one ever tell you that you CANT or you WONT – and people that say that are just losers, period.
“Life for me is about pursuing my dreams, even if fail, I fail on my terms and by my choices – not from other people’s decisions!
“All in all I just want to thank my homies that held me down for them two years, it was beautiful chaos but it’s over and I’m f**** back baby !!!!!! See y’all at work,” he said.
Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles general manager Todd Darvall told The Blacktown Advocate Segeyaro trained with the side for the first time on Monday.
The hooker will be eligible to play in the club’s round 1 NSW Cup match against the Penrith Panthers on Sunday March 13.
Segeyaro tested positive to Di-Hydroxy LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) in September 2019 when signed with the Brisbane Broncos and consequently received a 20-month suspension by the NRL Anti-Doping Tribunal.
The tribunal ruled last year Segeyaro was responsible for the positive result, but ruled he had not intentionally taken the drug.
He has not played professional rugby league since the suspension, which was lifted in June last year.
