Niland School, Blackett: Boy, 12 assaulted by three males

Teachers had to break up a brawl after three youths entered a western Sydney school and brutally bashed a 12-year-old boy.

A boy who was left with head injuries after a brutal school bashing on Monday has been released from hospital.

A Western Sydney Health spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday morning the 12-year-old had been released from Mt Druitt Hospital.

NSW Police said no arrests had been made at this stage.

Police said at about 2pm on Monday, three male youths entered the grounds of Niland School in Blackett and assaulted a 12-year-old boy.

Mt Druitt Detective Inspector Wayne Kelly said the males, who are not students of the school, punched the boy in the head before staff intervened and broke up the fight.

The youths fled the scene.

The attack happened at around 2pm on Monday.

The student suffered two cuts to his head, each about one centimetre wide.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the boy at the scene and shortly after he was said to be conscious with his mother in attendance.

He was later taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for treatment.

Mt Druitt Police officers were also called to the school in the aftermath of the incident.

The youths who attacked the boy have been described as being of Pacific Islander appearance.

On Monday evening police said the boy had been hesitant to provide details about his attackers out of fear of a “reprisal” attack.

When the Blacktown Advocate attended the school shortly after the assault, emergency services had left the scene.

The school principal declined to comment on the incident and directed any inquiries to the Department of Education.

Niland School caters for students with emotional and intellectual disabilities from year 3 to 12.

The boy was taken to hospital after the attack.

The shocking incident comes just days after dozens of students from Chifley College Shalvey were captured on video brawling outside a Luxford Rd shopping centre.

In one video a woman was filmed as she was shoved and punched repeatedly.

Police were out in force around the school at the end of last week with fears of more violence.

The police helicopter was even sent up above the school in an attempt to maintain the peace.

Police said no formal report about incidents at Shalvey had been made.

However, they have urged anyone with any information about the brawl or those involved to come forward.

A Department of Education spokesman said the Shalvey school was working with police to investigate the brawl.

“We do not tolerate violence and are continuing to work to provide a safe environment for all students, staff and visitors at Chifley College, Shalvey Campus,” the spokesman said.

“The school is working with NSW Police on this matter. The school will be taking appropriate disciplinary action.

“Counselling support has been offered.”
