Public schools have come out on top in the latest NAPLAN results from schools across the greater Blacktown area, new data has revealed.

The recently released 2019 NAPLAN results show that public schools outperformed other schools in the area overall, with Quakers Hill Public School and Caddies Creek Public School demonstrating the best results.

The data incorporates the performance of students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 across literacy and numeracy as part of the controversial nationwide standardised tests.

Year 3 and 5 students at Quakers Hill Public School got an average NAPLAN score of 500.2 — making it the area’s top performing school.

Caddies Creek Public School in Glenwood came in second spot, achieving an average score of 498.7.

Both schools continued their reign after ranking in the top two spots in the 2018 NAPLAN tests.

Out of the top 10 schools in the region, six were public schools, including Seven Hills North Public School, Parklea Public School, Kings Langley Public School and Colyton Public School

Parent Kristina Dalgliesh, whose twin girls are in Year 4 at Caddies Creek Public, said the school’s reputation was a major motivator for the family in moving to the area.

“We bought in this part of Glenwood for the catchment, so when we were looking at the house and we learnt it was in the Caddies Creek catchment and that was definitely a selling point,” Ms Dalgliesh said.

My husband and I were both in real estate at the time so we knew how important it was being in a good school catchment.

“We knew we would have the choice of going to a private school, or if we wanted to go to a public school, we knew the public school we were zoned for was reputable.”

She said her girls Suzannah and Taylah, both nine, were flourishing at the school, which she said strove to take the stress out of the tests.

“The support from the teachers has been incredible on an educational and emotional level,” she said.

“The school doesn’t put a great emphasis on NAPLAN. They treat it as just another day at school – get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast, come to school, but it’s just another day, don’t stress yourself about it.

“If anything they downplayed it, so to hear they got great results is amazing.”

Across the greater Blacktown area, six of the top ten schools recorded results above the state and national averages across all subject areas.
