Police are hunting for a gunman who fired shots into a home, narrowly missing people inside, in western Sydney street last night.
Five shots were fired into the home on Karen Pl, Mt Druitt, just after midnight, with the gunman believed to have fled in a stolen Mercedes.
Five people, including three men and two women were inside the house and an attached garage at the time of the shooting. Luckily nobody was injured.
Mt Druitt Detective Chief Inspector Paul Tickner said the shooting was possibly targeted, with one of the occupants of the home receiving threats prior to the incident.
“We have a number of leads at this stage but nothing solid at this stage,” he said.
“There’s some information that some threats had been made to the occupant there which came through last week, so we’re certainly following up that avenue of the investigation.”
Det Chief Insp Tickner said some of the shots hit two cars parked at the property.
“We believe there’s been five shots from a high-powered firearm at this stage,” he said.
“One’s gone through the windows of the Mercedes, two into a Jeep Wrangler and two have missed the vehicles into a side fence.
“One of the projectiles has bounced off the car and hit the house.”
A stolen Mercedes, believed to be connected to the shooting, was located burnt out in Hewitt St, Colyton, a short time after the shooting.
Police said the vehicle had been stolen from Baulkham Hills last month.
