Minchinbury Community Hospital: Plans for $200m redevelopment

A western Sydney community hospital that’s been around since the 1980s is set for a $200m expansion. Here’s what we know.

A community hospital in Sydney’s west which opened in the 1980s could soon get a much needed and overdue expansion.

Macquarie Health Corporation has set its sights on giving Minchinbury Community Hospital, located at 120 Rupertswood Rd in Rooty Hill, a redevelopment worth more than $200m.

The hospital has been around since 1981, with a majority of the site filled with open space.

The plan is to transform the current hospital into a state-of-the-art health and wellness facility by constructing an eight-storey building which will connect to the existing structure.

In this proposed new wing there will be medical imaging, pathology, outpatient, urgent and emergency care, retail and hospitality tenancies, a mental health unit and a rehabilitation unit.

Plans outlined in a letter to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment Social Infrastructure, by Willowtree Planning, state 380 additional parking spaces will also be created.

Besides adding new facilities, the redevelopment aims to internally refurbish the existing building and upgrade the Great Western Hwy and Rupertswood Rd intersection.

Due to the projected cost, the redevelopment is classified as a “state significant development” with the next stage including the preparation of an environment impact statement.
