A western Sydney man who violently attacked his partner with a samurai sword, after consuming meth and cannabis the night before, has told a court he can’t recall the incident.

A man has been jailed after brutally assaulting his partner with a samurai sword in an attack a magistrate described as “appalling”.

Louie Martirez, 47, of Riverstone appeared in Blacktown Local Court via video link on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to domestic violence related assault causing harm.

Agreed facts tendered to court Blacktown Local Court state on the evening of August 27, Martirez consumed marijuana and methamphetamine while at home with his partner a one year.

The following morning Martirez and the woman had an argument which prompted Martirez to ask the victim to leave.

When the victim went to retrieve her phone and bag from a bedroom where Maritez was trying to sleep, he got up and kicked her.

When she then tried to leave the room Martirez pulled out a 2m long samurai sword and, with the cover still attached, began to beat the woman using extreme force.

The assault lasted about two to three minutes, causing bruises to the woman’s torso and breasts and causing her to experience pain. Police attended the property where Maritez was arrested and charged.

The court heard Martirez could not remember the attack, which was described as “appalling” by Magistrate Brian van Zuylen, who said it was unacceptable to “consume such a large amount of drugs that you can’t remember attacking your partner with a sword”.

Mr van Zuylen took into account Martirez’s guilty plea and that he had been in custody since the September 23.

Martirez was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with a non parole period of six months.
