A man in a balaclava has stood on the street and fired a number of bullets at a family home in western Sydney overnight, with police told one shot was aimed at a woman near an upstairs window.
The shooting of a Blacktown home, described by police as “disturbing” and “a coward act”, took place about 1am Tuesday.
A number of bullets struck the front of the two-storey family home on Kent St which had eight people, aged between 18 and 70, inside at the time. There have been no reports of any injuries.
Blacktown Police Area Command crime manager Detective Chief Inspector David Goddard called on anyone with any information to come forward.
“It is disturbing to say the least, that someone can fire on a family for no apparent reason,” he said.
“It is a coward act and anyone with information please come forward.”
Chief Insp. Goddard said police believe a man, wearing dark clothing and a balaclava, stood in front of the home and fired at least three or four shots, with one shot being aimed at a woman near an upstairs window.
When pressed on whether the shooting was gang related, the police officer said it was too early to say.
“It is really early to say and to make that assessment but it is certainly something we won’t discount,” he said.
“There was one previous occupant known to police. He is not there at the moment and hasn’t been there for some time and we are still trying to track him down.”
Police were told a white sedan had been seen in the area at the time of the shooting and are investigating if a burnt out car found at Eastern Creek was linked to the incident.
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist police.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Blacktown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
