Mr Awac has also admitted to driving while disqualified, failing to stop and assist after causing grievous bodily harm in a crash and not giving particulars to police.

The court heard Mr Awac had been at a party with friends in the hours before the crash when he agreed to drive four people home, despite being a disqualified learner driver.

Police say he was driving a Honda Civic when it crossed over a median strip onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into a power pole and landing near a cement rise before bursting into flames.

Mr Awac admitted he had been speeding at the time of the crash at a speed of more than 100km/h in a 60km zone.

One witness told police the car was seen flying through the air as it passed through the intersection of Bungarribee and Walters roads in the moments before the crash.

Taking to the witness stand, Mr Awac said he had no memory of the crash and regretted his actions that night.

“Every morning, I think about what happened,” he said.

“I have nightmares daily of the crash and see the flames in my eyes and them dying.

“When I get in the car now, I have flashbacks. I freak out when the car reaches a certain speed, even if it is below the speed limit.”
