Federal Election 2019: Chifley voters worried about cost of living pressures

As Chifley voters prepare to head to the polls in this Saturday’s Federal Election, we can reveal the top issues across the electorate.

Voters in Chifley have ranked the top issues influencing their vote ahead of this Saturday’s Federal Election.

Among the issues most concerning voters in Chifley is day-to-day living costs, according to data from the Australian Futures Project.

‘The Perfect Candidate’ uses data collected in Roy Morgan surveys last year to identify key issues in each electorate.

Some 65 per cent of registered voters polled in Chifley identified keeping day-to-day living costs down as one of the three most important issues.

Nationally, the issue ranked first of the 18 included in the questionnaire.

Improving health services and hospitals was flagged among the most important by 48 per cent of surveyed voters, the second highest total, while open and honest government secured the next highest.

The needs of families ranked fourth highest, while managing immigration and population growth was the fifth highest concern.

Global warming and climate change placed next on the list, ahead of reducing crime/law and order.

SPOTLIGHT ON CHIFLEY

Voters in Chifley will head to the polls this Saturday for the Federal Election, with six candidates vying for the seat in the lower house.

Chifley covers an area from South Creek in the north to the Great Western Highway in the south. The division is bordered by Blacktown-Richmond Railway, Reservoir Road, Balmoral Street and Third Avenue in the East, South Creek and Ropes Creek in the West. Suburbs include: Arndell Park, Blacktown (part), Colebee, Dean Park, Doonside, Glendenning, Hassall Grove, Marayong, Marsden Park, Mount Druitt, Plumpton, Rooty Hill, Quakers Hill (part), Riverstone (part), Ropes Crossing, Shanes Park, Schofields (part), Tregear and Whalan.

Chifley has been held by Labor since its inception in 1969, with Labor incumbent Ed Husic holding the seat since 2010, with an 8.4 per cent swing.

Labor is predicted to retain the seat this Saturday, with a projected swing of 19.2 per cent in their favour.
