A multimillion-dollar business hub in the industrial heart of western Sydney at Eastern Creek could create hundreds of jobs if plans are approved.
The proposed $213 million Light Horse Interchange Business Hub was fast-tracked for approval this month as part of the State Government’s planning acceleration scheme, with the State Planning Panel having the final say on the plans next month.
The mammoth development from Charter Hall, located at the junction of the M7 and M4 motorways, is expected to generate 1000 jobs during construction.
The business hub is estimated to create a further 430 ongoing full-time jobs once complete.
It will comprise of seven warehouses over almost 158,000 square metres and an additional 8000 square metres of office space.
The largely vacant lot was previously used by the Australian Army and at one stage housed a water treatment plant, but for more than a decade, the site has been left idle.
The development has been pitched as offering “flexible business premises” for both industrial and light industrial purposes.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the fast-track program was a key part of the NSW Government’s COVID-19 recovery.
The latest phase of the program is anticipated to create more than 2700 for projects valued at more than $3 billion.
“Our focus so far has been on fast-tracking shovel-ready projects that were already in the planning system,” Mr Stokes said.
“Now it is time to shift from urgent response to lasting reform by applying the same accelerated momentum to determine new projects with potential to create significant jobs, economic investment and wider public benefits.
“To date we’ve already accelerated 80 projects over the last four months pumping more than $22 billion into the State’s economy, creating opportunities for more than 48,000 jobs and delivering more than 400 hectares of open space, parks and conservation lands.”
The plans will be decided on September 11.
