SEVEN Hills residents are sick of commuters flouting parking restrictions and think the council is not doing enough about it.

They say commuters are parking all day for free in the four-hour parking zone on Rowley St, which is less than 500m from Seven Hills train station.

Rowley St resident Ted Simms thinks it is only a matter of time before there is a “smash” on the street.

“The residents can hardly get up the street because people are parking there all day,” he said.

Residents are flouting the four-hour parking restrictions, Ted Simms says.

“Some cars are parked on angles and if they park near our house, you have to watch out because you can’t see if something is coming up the street.”

A Blacktown Council spokesman said: “Rangers have booked 23 cars for disobeying the parking signs in Rowley St alone so far this year and we are regularly patrolling the area.

“Parking is allowed on both sides of the street so residents and their visitors can park close to their houses.

“Time limits were introduced so commuters don’t clog the streets and so residents and guests can park for a reasonable period.’’

The spokesman said the council would consider introducing parking on one side of Rowley St if residents supported it and a meeting would be held to discuss it.

“However, this has disadvantages for those on the no-parking side of the street,’’ he said.

Residents can call the council’s community law enforcement section on 9839 6000 if they see cars parked illegally or police so infringements can be issued.
