Two dogs involved in a vicious attack in Tregear that put three people in hospital on Thursday afternoon have been destroyed, as police continue to investigate the incident.
A Blacktown Council spokesman confirmed to the Advocate on Friday that the canines had been euthanised, following a “horrific” ordeal a home on Vicennes Ave that left one man fighting for his life.
The man in his 40s remained in a critical condition at Westmead Hospital on Friday afternoon, having sustained several bites to his face, ears, chest and abdomen.
Two other people, a 30-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter, were also bitten on the forearm and back respectively.
The dogs, believed to have been a mixed bully breed, were held at Blacktown Animal Holding Facility overnight before the owner gave consent to have them euthanised on Friday.
Mt Druitt police attended the scene on Thursday and investigations are ongoing.
A NSW Police spokesman could not rule out the possibility of charges being laid.
“The investigation continues so no confirmation yet as to if charges will be laid,” he said.
It is understood all three victims were visiting the home at the time of the attack.
One of the dogs first bit the girl, and when her mother stepped in to help she was also set upon.
The man was then mauled when he came to their aid and another dog joined the attack.
His injuries were so severe he required a blood transfusion at the scene and was placed in an induced coma.
The girl was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead for treatment on Thursday and remained there today.
