Construction starts on $5m indoor motocross dome
A revolutionary indoor motocross park at Eastern Creek could be open in six month’s time, as construction begins on the family-owned multimillion-dollar project.
Work on an indoor motocross dome described as “the first of its kind in Australia” is underway.
The owners of the revolutionary Sydney Indoor MX Dome, Matt and Barbara Bartolo broke ground at the Eastern Creek site on Friday.
It was a momentous occasion for the family, who said the $5 million project symbolised turning a “hobby into a business”.
Mr Bartolo said the idea for the dome came when their motocross-mad son Luca complained about not being able to ride in torrential rain.
“It’s going to create a safe seven-day a week, late-night riding environment,” he said. “It’s taking the kids’ passion to another level.”
Mr Bartolo said the final design for inside the air-filled dome was still being planned. He said it could be open by the “middle of next year”.
Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali said the dome would provide people with a safe place to hone their motocross skills.
“Our goal is to make this the motorsport hub of the Sydney basin,” he said. “You’ve got V8s and go karts next door, and now motocross.”
Sport Minister Stuart Ayres praised the Bartolos for investing in their passion.
“The Eastern Creek precinct has all the hallmarks of a world class precinct and the motocross park is another big step in that direction,” he said.

The dome will cover 10,000sq m and be built behind Eastern Creek International Go Karts on Peter Brock Dr.
The project will also include a redevelopment of the go kart site including a new carpark and internal roads.
Mr Bartolo said the dome would be open late — until “10 or 11pm” — to catch the after work crowd and create a space to build a motocross culture in western Sydney.
It would feature a merchandise shop and cafe.
