Investigations are underway following a house fire in Blacktown in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
At about 1.15am (January 1), officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command were on patrol when they saw a home on Clifton Street engulfed in flames.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said it took over an hour and a half to put out the blaze, adding that when they arrived “the house was well alight and there were downed power lines”.
He said: “The roof had also fully collapsed”.
It is understood the house was abandoned.
The single story timber and brick building was totally destroyed by fire with vision showing fireworks going off as the fire took hold.
There is now just a shell of a house with the interior completely destroyed.
The front walls are gone with just bricks and a few frames still remaining.
Police said in a media release: “Police established a crime scene, which will undergo specialist forensic examination.
“Detectives have commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.
“Inquiries continue. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.”
