The owner of a Blacktown service station that was held up at gun point last night, said it has left staff and witnesses “traumatised”.
Three armed thieves remain on the run after storming the Budget Petrol Blacktown on Kildare Rd at about 9.45pm on February 23, before threatening a male staff member and two customers with weapons.
Police say one man was armed with a rifle and a second was armed with a machete.
Service station owner George (surname withheld) said the incident was “traumatic” for witnesses.
“Two men went behind the counter – one for the till and one for the cigarettes and the third man was holding the two customers at bay,” he said.
“(The customers) dropped to the floor as soon as he told them to and said ‘Get down, I don’t want to hurt you, get down’.
“I took (the staff member) home and he stayed with me last night.
“He’s shaken up but he’s okay. Thankfully, no one was injured. That’s the main thing.
“We’ve been here 16 years and haven’t had any issues. Now we have to upgrade security to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.”
He said customers driving past at the time saw the incident and called police.
The men then fled the scene and were last seen driving east along Kildare Rd in a black hatchback.
