Three people have been charged in relation to a “riot” where police were forced to shut down the Great Western Highway when almost 150 people blocked the roadway to watch burnouts.

Officers from Mt Druitt Highway Patrol were called to the Great Western Highway near Flushcombe Rd just before 8.30pm on February 11 after reports of anti-social behaviour.

Police say up to 150 people had gathered at the site around an orange VF Holden sedan, which was allegedly doing a burnout in two of the three eastbound lanes.

The crowd had spilled onto the roadway and due to safety concerns, police had to block off the highway.

When officers tried to reach the Holden, members of the crowd allegedly hindered the passage of the police car and refused to move off the road.

Members of the crowd allegedly targeted the vehicle, with some kicking and stomping on the car. One man stood on top of the car bonnet as another woman fell onto the bonnet, police say.

The car sustained serious damage, worth about $11,500.

The following day, police went to a home on Ryan St, St Marys and spoke to a 29-year-old woman, who is alleged to be the owner of the Holden.

She was charged with not disclosing driver details and will face Mt Druitt Local Court on May 6.

On February 13, police arrested a 20-year-old man in Pavonia Way, Blacktown. He was charged with destroying or damaging property, riot, resisting police and obstructing a driver’s path.

He will face Mt Druitt Local Court on May 21.

On March 19, police spoke to a 21-year-old woman at a home on Bottleburch Cres, Cranebrook. She was charged with intentionally marking premises without prescribed consent and will face Mt Druitt Local Court on June 30.
