A western Sydney library is set for a $26.8m makeover.
Blacktown Council has unveiled one of three planned projects for Mt Druitt – an expansion to the Mt Druitt Library and Community Hub.
The upgrade will see a new two-storey wing added to the existing structure, along with a children’s library and play area, six study rooms, four group study rooms, 10 meeting rooms, five activity rooms, multifunctional rooms for gathering, and open-plan study spaces which will include reading areas.
Similarly to the planned library and community hub in Seven Hills, this upgrade is part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) program being funded by the NSW Government.
The other two planned projects for Mt Druitt includes a major upgrade to the existing swimming centre and a First Nations Cultural Hub.
All three projects are set to cost $86.9m for the Mt Druitt suburb alone as part of the council’s masterplan for the town centre.
The plan includes improving accessibility for pedestrians and vehicle access while keeping the parkland atmosphere.
Construction on the library’s upgrades are projected to begin in 2026, with completion aiming for late 2027.
Blacktown Council’s mayor and fellow Mt Druitt resident Brad Bunting is thrilled to see changes coming to the area.
“The Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub is just the beginning in a transformation that will change how people think about the town centre,” he said.
“There is a growing community here crying out for new places to work, rest and play, and I am looking forward to providing for them.”
