“People   in western Sydney will die” from health issues because of Badgerys Creek airport.

That was the dire response from Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali at a forum last week. About 50 residents attended the Your Say Community meeting at Jim Southee Community Centre, Kings Langley, on Thursday.

Labor councillor Julie Griffiths, Mayor Bali and general manager Kerry Robinson were part of a panel to address questions.

One resident emphasised some people were still unaware of the airport or how close it would be to their homes.

Cr Bali expressed his strong position of opposing the airport.

“People in western Sydney will die as a result of the airport,” he said.

The forum at Kings Langley was the first in a series throughout the year.

He said it was necessary for residents to talk about the airport among family and friends and keep the issue alive.

The main concerns raised because of the airport were centred on traffic, lack of job opportunities, the environment and health.

Increasing traffic and a struggling infrastructure because of the continued growth of development in Blacktown City were other key issues raised.

The restoration of Lalor Creek at Kings Langley was also addressed. Revegetation has been taking place and the creek channel has been widened to protect the banks with sandstone blocks.
