Labor has secured eight of the 11 decided seats at Blacktown Council following the weekend’s election.
Four seats hang in the balance but Labor is looking good to secure more.
Current Mayor and Deputy Mayor Tony Bleasdale and Julie Griffiths have retained their seats and all but one of the current councillors running for re-election have already secured their position.
Currently just over 50 per cent of the votes have been counted in each of the five wards and ten council seats have already been declared.
Labor has its majority but it could be even better for them once all votes are counted.
Ward 1
Ward 1 current Councillors Moninder Singh and Liberal turned Independent Jess Diaz have both retained their seat.
The third seat is still up for grabs with two councillors neck and neck for the final spot. Current Labor councillor Christopher Quilkey is currently just ahead of Blacktown Coalition’s Mohit Kumar.
Chris Quilkey looked in control until the pre-polling results came in and now Mohit Kumar has almost levelled up with the seat looking like it will go down to the wire.
Ward 2
Current Blacktown Council Deputy Mayor, Julie Griffiths retained her seat comfortably and she will be joined by Blacktown Coalition Party’s Michael Stubley.
The third seat in Ward 2 remains up in the air with Labor’s Kushpinder Kaur in pole position. But the Green’s Len Hobbs and independent Bill Tyrrell are in with a chance.
Ward 3
So far Labor has dominated Ward 3 with returning Councillors Susai Benjamin and Kathie Collins being re-elected with relative ease.
The third seat looks likely to go to retired teacher and former Liberal turned Independent Allan Green who currently holds a healthy lead.
Ward 4
The councillors for Ward 4 are already decided with Labor’s Carol Israel and Bob Fizgerald joined by current Liberal councillor turned independent Peter Camilleri.
Ward 5
Labor has already secured two seats in Ward 5 with Blacktown Council Mayor Tony Bleasdale retaining his seat with ease.
He is joined by fellow Labor councillor Brad Bunting who will serve his second term.
The third spot is still undecided but current councillor Livingston Chettipally is looking most likely to secure the seat which will mean all current councillors who have run again will be voted in.
