A PLAY looking at the concept of whether there is intrinsic evil in the world is due to open in Toongabbie next week.
Wolf Lullaby is based in a bleak, remote Australian town where a small child has been murdered and suspicion falls on nine-year-old Lizzie.
Blackout Theatre Company’s interpretation of the Australian play, which opens in Toongabbie next week, also aims to be a “conversation starter” about mental health.
Director Jordan Anderson, of Blacktown, said he felt theatre had “always been that medium where we can talk about taboo topics and we can talk about it in a safe place… and we can get the discussion going”.
“And that’s something I really tried to incorporate into the show,” he said.
Wolf Lullaby looks at the family dynamic between Lizzie and her separated parents, and the choice Lizzie’s mother Angela — who is convinced her daughter is guilty of the murder — must make.
Angela, played by Jess Bell, loves her daughter but must decide whether to tell the police about her suspicions.
“With Jess playing Angela you’re just watching this massive tightrope the entire show where she wonders whether she’s gone too far or not enough and you can see the love she has for her daughter,” Anderson said.
Wolf Lullaby runs from July 13-15 at Toongabbie Christian School. Tickets are available here.
