A teenager has faced court on the Central Coast charged with the murder of a man in Sydney’s west last month.

Dressed in a grey hoodie Dylan Thompson appeared at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where his Legal Aid solicitor did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The court heard the 19-year-old from Tregear was granted bail last month after being charged with the assault occasioning actual bodily harm of a man at Tregear.

Emergency services were called to a home on Ellsworth Drive, Tregear, about 10.30pm on June 10, after a man was found unresponsive in a bedroom.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were unable to revive the 32-year-old man and officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command established a crime scene.

Police identified the victim as Ashley “Shazy” Mundy and alleged he had been injured during a physical altercation at the home.

Mr Thompson was charged with assault along with a teenage girl, 16, who cannot be named because of her age.

Another man, Dylan Aldred, 18, was charged at the time with Mr Mundy’s murder and remains before the courts.

Wyong Local Court on Tuesday heard Mr Thompson attended Toukley Police Station on Monday where his assault charge was “upgraded” to the alleged murder of Mr Mundy.

The court heard the assault charge was likely to be “withdrawn” in light of the more serious allegation and police lodged a detention application, which was not opposed by Mr Thompson’s solicitor.

He was adjourned to Penrith Local Court on Friday, July 7, where police will make a further application for a forensic procedure.
