Andy Leonello death: NSW police officer Justone Wong pleads not guilty to causing fatal Llandillo crash

A specialist Sydney police officer charged with negligent driving following a fatal crash that killed an elderly bus driver will fight the charges in court.

A police officer charged with causing a fatal crash that claimed the life of 76-year-old bus driver Andy Leonello in Sydney’s west last year, has been committed to stand trial.

Justone Wong, 40, pleaded not guilty at Penrith Local Court on Friday to dangerous driving occasioning death following an investigation by police into the crash at Llandilo, near Penrith.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Third and Fifth Ave about 7am on May 24, following reports of a crash involving a bus and an unmarked NSW Police vehicle.

The bus driver – Andy Leonello, 76 – died at the scene.

Wong, who was attached to a specialist command, was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

The Critical Incident Investigation Team from Blacktown Police Area Command launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, and issued Wong with a court attendance notice in August 2022.

He will reappear before Penrith District Court on April 28, when a trial date will be set.

A charge of negligent driving occasioning death has also been laid by police as a back-up charge.
