Beautiful Bondi is simply the best and this is why, says local Libby Babet
Bondi is one of Sydney’s best-known suburbs and it’s residents firmly believe it’s heaven on earth. Here’s why.

Tell us about you: I’m Libby Babet, a health and fitness specialist. I got into the industry after being diagnosed with malignant hypertension in my early 20s. And I’m mum to 18-month-old Izzy who’s a bit of a character.
Where do you live and why do you live there? Bondi. My fitness studio The Upbeat is on Bondi Rd so when the opportunity to take the apartment upstairs came up, we grabbed it.
My morning commute is now 10 seconds.
What do you like most about living there? The convenience. I can shop across the road. It’s easy to grab Izzy and jump on a bus and head down to the beach.
What does a typical day look like? I’m usually up at 4:30 to train clients, but with COVID-19 the studio is in lock down so now I’m up at 5:30 to train people with our live streaming classes.
Then breakfast upstairs with both Izzy and my husband Justin. We take turns looking after Izzy while we each get some work done.
Favourite outdoor space in your area? Bondi Beach of course. We love all the harbour beaches and walks along the cliffs. with Izzy. We like finding all the kids’ playgrounds for her.
One thing you’d like to change about your suburb? Not a night goes by without at least a few ambulances and police car sirens going down Bondi Rd. That is something I would change.
Do you have a home away from home? My studio. I absolutely love what I do. When we’re not in Sydney we’re usually in Byron Bay or at my parents’ house just north of Coffs Harbour. It’s pretty magical up there.
During these tough times you say … If you have lost your job or business, please get in touch with by emailing us at hello@theupbeat.fit and we’ll organise free online classes for you.
You’re finding it challenging because … With an 18 month old, staying inside all day is hard. It’s hard for Izzy and hard for me to keep her entertained. I’m thinking I might run some kids classes online for other parents struggling with the same.
The surprise positives are that … I’m connecting online with so many people I haven’t seen for ages, especially through my online classes as people are joining from around Australia and even as far as Finland and Ireland.
