An alleged underworld assassin and brothel manager will stand trial in the Supreme Court over the shooting death of a sex worker’s husband, following claims of infidelity.

Ayman Manly, 41, was all smiles when he left Downing Centre Local Court, sitting at John Maddison Tower, on Thursday after pleading not guilty to charges of murder, shoot at with intent to murder, possessing an unauthorised pistol, acquiring a pistol subject to a firearm prohibition order, and discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The brothel manager of Mistiques Newtown is accused of the 2022 shooting death of Mohammed ‘Walter’ Chami, a feared underworld linchpin.

During Manly’s Supreme Court bail application in December, the court heard Chami had accused Manly of having an affair with his wife, a sex worker at Mistiques.

It is alleged Chami had an associate drive him to Fox St in Holroyd just before midnight on March 3, where he intended to confront Manly.

However, before he could do so he was shot dead by a man who police allege is Manly.

Manly is also accused of shooting Chami’s associate in the buttocks as he tried to flee.

On Thursday, the court heard prosecutors were initially seeking to put Manly back behind bars, before withdrawing their detention application.

It comes as Manly seeks to vary the conditions of his bail, which he was granted after his long time friend, property developer Allan Chrara, put $5m on the line in surety.

Manly is under electronic monitoring at Mr Chrara’s palatial six-bedroom home in Sydney’s northwest.

He will face the Supreme Court for arraignment on August 1, before a hearing to vary his bail on August 5.
