An assault charge against a rapper and social media influencer has been thrown out after her sister – the alleged victim – failed to show for court.
Amarni Skaf, 23, from East Lindfield, was set to face a hearing over an alleged attack on her sister dating back to March 2020.
But when sister Aisha didn’t show at Hornsby Local Court, the charge was withdrawn.
Skaf is a regular on social media and is known for sharing racy snaps of herself which she posts for her combined 300,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok.
She is also a rapper who has spent time in the US trying to get her big break.
But on Monday she was in Hornsby Local Court to face one charge of common assault, after an alleged filming during a heated argument with her sister last year.
Wearing all black with her hair in a tight bun, she posted to Instagram to update her followers on her look for the appearance.
In court the police prosecutor Sergeant Peacock made an adjournment application with her sister, who was due to give evidence, but failed to attend.
The court heard the rapper allegedly assaulted her sister at their home in March last year.
“The complainant was allegedly filming the accused during an argument and the accused has pushed it to her face,” Sergeant Peacock told the court.
Magistrate Louise McManus rejected the adjournment application, saying if the matter was adjourned there was little to no likelihood Aisha would attend court.
“Given the seriousness of the offence and clear view of the witness she would not attend, the application for adjournment is refused,” she told the court.
Sgt Peacock withdrew the common assault charge and the AVO for Aisha’s friend Amanda Margaret Cook was withdrawn.
A six-month AVO was made against Ms Skaf in relation to Aisha.
The magistrate gave a stern warning to Ms Skaf, warning her it was a “serious matter” to breach an AVO.
“If there’s any breach the court will consider a jail sentence,” she said.
Her appearance in court was a far cry from her glitzy social media reels.
In a recent Instagram video she was seen donning a silver sequined number with bottles of Moet while celebrating her 23rd birthday on a deluxe party yacht.
Skaf has also made recent headlines after releasing a music video named Mashallah.
She copped backlash from the Muslim community for the song with people questioning whether she knew the Arab meaning of the phrase which translates to ‘what God has willed’.
