A 20-year-old Albury bartender has been sentenced for glassing a woman after she spoke to her boyfriend on a night out.

Sarah Bryan, 20, appeared before Albury Local Court on Tuesday after she had earlier pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm

The court heard on July 17 at Public House Albury on Dean St, the victim, also 20, was socialising with friends when she ran into an ex-colleague and friend, Bryan’s boyfriend.

While the pair spoke, Bryan, who does not work at Public House Albury but another licensed venue, watched on.

About 10.54pm, roughly two hours after the victim’s interaction with Bryan’s boyfriend, Bryan approached the victim and engaged in a conversation.

She then emptied the glass over the 20-year-old victim’s head before throwing it at the her, where it impacted with the side of her head, according to court documents.

Police facts state CCTV footage of the night clearly show Bryan throwing a glass at the victim’s head, before making a swift exit from the premises.

Despite pleading guilty, Bryan initially denied both the offence and knowing the victim in a police interview on August 28 where she was shown CCTV footage, court documents state.

Bryan’s defence lawyer told the court the incident was an accident and Bryan didn’t realise the cup was made of glass, and it “fell out of her hand.”

“Ms Bryan tipped the glass over the woman’s head and the glass then slipped from her fingers and onto the victim’s head,” he told the court.

Magistrate Miranda Moody slammed Bryan in court calling it a ‘dangerous and stupid act.’

“What a disgraceful way to behave and a dangerous thing to do, this could have resulted in serious injury,” Ms Moody said.

“I don’t believe that Ms Bryan didn’t know it wasn’t glass, I wasn’t born in the last shower.

“If that is how you behave when intoxicated then you need to take a serious look at not drinking.”

Bryan was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order and fined $500.
