‘Worried for her’: Fears for Bianca Censori after shock Grammys outfit

Body language and coercive control experts have weighed in after the Australian wife of Kanye West, Bianca Censori, wore practically nothing to the Grammys.

Alarm bells are being rung after the shock red carpet appearance of the Australian wife of controversial American rapper Kanye West on the Grammy Awards red carpet.

Body language and coercive control experts have raised concern over Bianca Censori’s nude appearance alongside her fully clothed husband.

Arriving at the ceremony in LA with a stony-faced West, the 30-year-old model removed her fur coat and twirled around to reveal her naked form in a sheer dress.

Amid the frenzy of flashing cameras and gasping onlookers, Censori posed with her hand on her hips for photographers as an emotionless black-clad West, his eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses, looked on. 

Whether it was a bizarre attempt at performance art, or a bold stunt to ensure they stole the show, Censori’s Grammys appearance raised red flags for concerned experts.

The pair’s latest spectacle at the star-studded event will be further fuel for West’s critics, who claim his behaviour shares similarities with coercive control, even though coercive dressing is normally about modesty, with a person seeking to cover up their partner’s body, rather than exposing it.

“Looking at body language and the way Bianca is presenting herself, she doesn’t seem to have a lot of power or agency,” Dannielle Miller, of Women’s Community Shelters, told The Daily Telegraph.

“I am worried for her. So many times historically when we have observed quite visibly in front of us, a woman in the public space who doesn’t look like she has her own agency, we have been concerned and said nothing. Given his financial position of power over her, there is another reason to suspect that she could be more vulnerable than we realise in this.”

West, who was previously married to Kim Kardashian, has a net worth of more than $2 billion.

Some speculated the red carpet appearance was to replicate the album cover for West’s 2024 release, Vultures 1, in which Censori was photographed standing backward in nothing but thigh-high boots and a tiny piece of sheer fabric covering her behind.

Once done with their red carpet moment, Censori and West were escorted out of the Grammys by police officers, sources told The New York Post.

Full Stop Australia CEO, Karen Bevan, said coercive control was a pattern of behaviours where one person creates a dynamic of power and control over another.

“Coercive behaviours might seem innocuous by themselves but as a pattern of abuse they can isolate, scare or control a person,” she said.

“Monitoring or controlling where you go, who you see and what you wear may be some of the signs of coercive control.”

Advocate Cecilia McKenzie said there was a clear power imbalance between the couple.

“What I am seeing is quite concerning,” she said.

“It is concerning if she was pushed to do that and being pushed to do that and not being able to express yourself for wanting to protect your privacy, she is in a really difficult concerning situation.”

Dr Louise Mahler, an expert in communication and body language, said Censori’s lack of clothing and demeanour were truly “disturbing”.

“There is something wrong here,” she said.

“This is clearly a magnificent female body but look at what is going on. Turning up at a red carpet with no clothes on is a highly provocative act that one would imagine takes nerves and a sense of humour.”

“However, looking at Bianca’s face, this is not a woman enjoying herself. Her eyes are wide and even appear frightened.

“Her lips are pursed but her face is dropped with no humour lines or even expression. As she shows us her back, her head is slightly dropped reminding me of someone who may be being displayed as property.

“She is ‘doing the business’ with no glow of excitement in the event.”

Dr Mahler noted West’s “army sergeant” demeanour as he watched his wife on the Grammys red carpet.

“Whatever is going on here it is certainly provocative, definitely not funny and despite the sheer beauty of Bianca’s body, somewhat disturbing,” she said.

She said the image of Censori facing towards West, with her back to the cameras, was “disturbing.”

“If their intention was to be provocative, they have achieved their goal, but not in the way they had intended as all this disturbing ‘show’ will do is raise concern for Bianca Censori and raise serious questions over the control that Kanye West holds over her,” she said.
