US politics live: Donald Trump lashes out as Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin meet
Donald Trump has lashed out over China’s massive show of strength after previously insisting he was “not concerned at all”. Follow live.
Welcome to our coverage of US politics.
After insisting he was “not concerned at all” by the meeting of Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump has lashed out, accusing the trio of “conspiring against The United States of America”.
In unprecedented scenes, the leaders of China, North Korea and Russia walked a red carpet together in Tiananmen Square at a parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in WWII.
As anticipated, the US President took his exclusion from the festivities well.
“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader,” the US President wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”
Meanwhile, dramatic footage showed the moment US military forces bombed a drug-smuggling vessel from Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang – which Mr Trump alleges is controlled by leftist Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro – killing 11 people.
The President posted a video online of an open-topped speedboat carrying a number of people travelling on a body of water before it exploded in a ball of flames. The move is a potentially significant escalation in the standoff between Caracas and Washington, after the US deployed eight warships to Latin America in what it bills as a war on drug trafficking.
“Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America. BEWARE!” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.
