Former prime minister Scott Morrison and his wife were among the attendees at Donald Trump’s star studded private New Year’s Eve celebration at the US President elect’s resort in Florida.

Mr Morrison shared a photo where he and Jenny are standing either side of the incoming president and his wife, Melania Trump, at Mar-a-Lago where a large crowd and a band can be seen playing in the background.

“HNY 2025 from Mar-a-Lago,” Mr Morrison said on X.

In the picture Mr Trump, who is due to be inaugurated as US President later this month, is grinning and giving a thumbs up.

The private event included several of Mr Trump’s closest associates, including Tesla boss Elon Musk, Senator Ted Cruz and incoming Vice-President JD Vance.

Musk and Melania Trump were later seen pulling out some dance moves as they played one of Mr Trump’s favourite songs, YMCA, at the event.

Other VIPs included Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos, Lara and Eric Trump.

Mr Morrison enjoyed a friendly relationship with Mr Trump when the two were both leaders, with the former US President hosting the ex-PM at the White House for a state dinner in September 2019.

Donald Trump looks forward to 2025 as being a great year

Last month Mr Morrison used a speech to the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations to argue Mr Trump’s election victory was a chance to better defend global bodies like the World Trade Organisation and World Health Organisation from attempts by rivals like China to blunt their effectiveness from within.

As he arrived at the event, Mr Trump revealed his hopes for the New Year.

When asked what he most looks forward to in the new year, Mr Trump said he predicts 2025 will be “a great year.”

“I just want everyone to be happy, healthy and well,” he told reporters who waited for him as he arrived with his wife Melania.

“We’re going to do fantastic as a country,” he said.

“People aren’t respecting us as much as a country, and they will be.”

When asked about US President Joe Biden’s claims he could have won the US Election if he had not stepped aside for Kamala Harris, Mr Trump said he wished Mr Biden well.

He added that he had an opportunity to challenge him in the presidential debates that were held, but it didn’t go his way.

Mr Trump added he plans to attend the state funeral of former president Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday aged 100.

“I do. I’ll be there. We were invited,” he said.

When asked a follow-up question about whether he had spoken to any of Mr Carter’s family members, the Republican demurred, responding: “I’d rather not say.”

Mr Carter, a Democrat who served one term as US president from 1977 to 1981, voted by mail in the 2024 US presidential election, with family members saying he planned to vote for Mr Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

State funeral plans for Carter, a one-time peanut farmer who worked his way to the White House, begin Saturday in his home state of Georgia and will conclude January 9 at the Washington National Cathedral, where Mr Trump is expected to attend along with other dignitaries.
